Print on Demand Products: What Sells in 2026, and What to Start With
Written by Alex, founder of Ownprint, a print on demand jewelry supplier. Last updated 12 October 2026.
Print on demand products are custom products a supplier makes only after your customer orders them, so you can sell them online without buying any stock. When someone new researches how the business model works, literally every video, course and piece of content on social media talks about starting with t-shirts, hoodies, mugs and tote bags, so that is where almost everyone starts, and that is where the crowd is. The product almost nobody talks about is personalized jewelry, and it is the one that leaves the most money per order. I have made it since 2020 and watched thousands of sellers start with it, so here is my read of what sells in 2026, what each product earns per order, and what I would start with today. It doubles as a comparison: every product comes with its cost, the price buyers pay, what is left per order, and the supplier to get it from.
The short version, dated October 2026: personalized jewelry is, I think, the most underrated print on demand product to start with. It leaves the most money per order of anything on this list: about $36.50 on a $49 necklace, before shipping and fees. Buyers happily pay that price, because it is a gift with a name, a date or a photo they chose themselves, so they are not comparing it with cheaper copies. And the demand is there: jewelry and personal accessories is one of Etsy's six biggest categories, which together made about $8.9 billion, 85% of everything sold on Etsy in 2025, according to Etsy's own annual report. Apparel and mugs are where most sellers start, but at the typical Etsy price they leave somewhere between about $6 and $13 per order; pillows, blankets and phone cases do better, $20 to $24, and still sit well under jewelry. My recommendation: start with jewelry, and add a shirt or a mug for the same niche once the first product sells. Most sellers end up with two or three product types, not one. And if you already sell t-shirts or any other product, you can add jewelry next to them to diversify, without changing the supplier for the rest. The rest of this guide shows the numbers behind that, category by category.
The whole guide in one sketch: typical Etsy price minus supplier cost, before shipping and fees.
How I picked these products
I did not want this to be another list copied from a supplier's catalog, so every product here had to pass three checks.
It has to sell in volume on Etsy and on Shopify stores today. For that I used Etsy's own quarterly letters (the Q1 2026 letter credits personalized, occasion-driven goods for Etsy's best quarter in more than a year), Printify's best-seller list updated 15 September 2026, and Printful's statistics post from 29 September 2026. It has to be makeable one at a time by a print on demand supplier with no minimum. And I had to be able to put a real cost and a real price next to it: the cost from the supplier's own public page in October 2026, the price from the median Etsy listing price for the personalized version, as counted by the Etsy keyword tool Rankhero between March and October 2026. Listing prices, not sale prices, so treat them as what the market asks, not what every seller gets.
The products that sell
The same facts for every product: what it is, what it costs you, what it sells for, who buys it, when it peaks, and the catch. Costs are the supplier's base price for one piece, before shipping and marketplace fees, and they are the cheapest standard option on the supplier's list in October 2026, not a premium one.
Personalized jewelry
I start with the one I make, because it is the one I know best after six years, and because it is where I would put a new seller's first hour. I will be straight about the downsides too.
A personalized piece is a stainless steel pendant, bracelet or keychain, engraved with your design plus whatever the buyer adds: a name, a date, a photo, a handwritten note, a star map, coordinates. It ships in a gift box with a message card you design.
Cost: at Ownprint a piece costs €11 (about $12.50) in stainless steel and €12 (about $13.65) in 18k gold or rose gold plating, every shape, every design. Back engraving is €3.50 (about $4) extra. Those are the prices on our pricing page in October 2026.
Sells for: a necklace can easily sell for $49 and more, a bracelet for $45, a keychain for $39. Sellers charge $8 to $10 extra for the back engraving. Some sellers price lower than that, many price higher, it depends on the brand and the buyer.
What an order is worth: put that together and a typical order is the piece, plus the back engraving on about 55% of orders, plus shipping where the seller charges it, so somewhere around $55 to $60 per order. That is our estimate from what sellers charge, not a platform average.
How big it is: Etsy names jewelry and personal accessories as one of its six biggest categories in its 2025 annual report, and names gifting and personal milestones as a key reason people buy. That covers the whole category, print on demand and handmade together, and it tells you the buyers are there.
Who buys it: mostly a person buying a gift for a specific person and occasion. A daughter's 18th birthday, a 10th anniversary, a new mom, a memorial, a dog that passed away. That is why the personalization matters so much: the buyer is not buying a necklace, they are buying the one with their daughter's name on it. And the same people who buy t-shirts buy jewelry too, for themselves or as a gift: fans of a hobby, a job, a team, a band, a dog breed or a place, with the thing they love engraved on a coin or a keychain.
Shapes: the coin pendant is the shape most sellers start with, but on Ownprint any shape sells. What decides it is the design, not the shape.
When it peaks: the last three months of the year are clearly the biggest, but it sells all year because there is always a birthday, an anniversary or a Mother's Day coming. Jacqueline, who sells on Etsy from Melbourne, gets one to five orders a day through the year and a jump in Q4.
Where to get it: Ownprint, a print on demand jewelry supplier which engraves pendants, bracelets and keychains in Rotterdam and California with the buyer's personalization built into the Etsy and Shopify listing, and ships every piece in its own unboxing experience: a gift box with a message card you design. Printify offers some jewelry too, a few necklaces in zinc alloy and steel, but for print on demand jewelry Ownprint is the better choice, and I say why with prices in Ownprint vs Printify for print on demand jewelry.
Left per order: about $36.50 on a $49 necklace before shipping and fees, plus $4 to $6 more on the orders with back engraving.
The catch: new sellers give up too early, and they price too low. They post a few listings, see no sales in two weeks, and stop, usually right before the shop would have started working. Or they list a $49 product at $25 because that feels safer, and then the business does not pay. Neither is a product problem, but both kill more jewelry shops than anything else I have seen.
What the buyer opens, on every order: gift box, message card, the engraved piece.
T-shirts and hoodies
The product everyone starts with. A design printed on a blank shirt, usually direct to garment.
Cost: a Bella+Canvas 3001 tee is $12.25 at Printful and $10.98 at Printify on the free plan; a Gildan hoodie is $22.75 at Printful. Printify's cheapest tee starts at $6.
Sells for: the median custom t-shirt listing on Etsy is $20, the median custom hoodie $35.44.
Listings: 1,265,000 Etsy listings target "custom t-shirt", the most of any product on this page.
Who buys it: fans of a thing. Hobbies, jobs, places, jokes, bands, dog breeds.
When it peaks: Q4 and back to school, and around whatever the design is about.
Where to get it: Printify, Printful and Gelato all do apparel; it is the core of their catalogs. ShineOn also lists t-shirts and apparel next to its jewelry, according to its own Shopify app listing.
Left per order: about $7.75 on a $20 tee at Printful's price, about $12.70 on a $35 hoodie, before shipping and fees.
The catch: it is the most crowded category in print on demand (apparel is 39.5% of everything sold, by Printify's count), so your design competes with more than a million listings. Sizing causes returns: the reviews on Printful's own tee and hoodie pages say both run small. And with about $8 left per tee, you need volume.
Mugs and drinkware
An 11 oz ceramic mug with your design wrapped around it, plus tumblers and water bottles.
Cost: Printify's ceramic mugs start at $4.93 ($3.68 on its paid plan); a 20 oz tumbler is about $13.80 there.
Sells for: most personalized mugs on Etsy list between $10 and $25 (83% of listings), so about $15 to $20.
Who buys it: gift buyers for coworkers, teachers, dads, and anyone with an inside joke.
When it peaks: Q4, Mother's Day, Father's Day, teacher appreciation.
Where to get it: Printify, Printful and Gelato.
Left per order: about $10 on a $15 mug before shipping and fees.
The catch: heavy and fragile, so shipping takes a big part of what the buyer pays and breakages happen. And a mug competes with 581,000 other personalized mug listings. Mug shops live on volume and on bundles.
Wall art and posters
Your artwork printed on paper or canvas, sold as a poster, a framed print or a canvas.
Cost: Printify's matte posters start at $4.96 and rolled posters at $2.86; an 18 x 24 canvas is about $27 at Printify and $36.50 at Printful.
Sells for: the median custom poster listing on Etsy is $16.61; canvas and framed prints sell for more.
Who buys it: people decorating a specific room: nursery, kitchen, office, gym.
When it peaks: January moves and Q4.
Where to get it: Printify, Printful and Gelato.
Left per order: about $11.65 on a $16.61 poster before shipping and fees; more on canvas, which also costs more to make and to ship.
The catch: with wall art the design is the whole product, so it has to be something a buyer would frame and hang, and the two easiest niches, nursery prints and quote prints, are the most crowded on Etsy. Large posters and canvases also cost more to ship than they cost to make, so they only work at higher prices.
Blankets, pillows and ornaments
The home goods that print on demand does well: fleece and sherpa blankets, throw pillows, and ceramic or wood ornaments.
Cost: a 50 x 60 blanket is about $29 at Printify and $39.50 at Printful. A throw pillow is $13.75 at Printful (its all-over print basic pillow) and a pillowcase about $11.70 at Printify. A ceramic ornament starts at $4.93 at Printify and $6.03 at Printful.
Sells for: the median personalized blanket listing on Etsy is $29.99, a personalized pillow $36.47, a personalized ornament $17.98.
Who buys it: gift buyers again, often for grandparents and for memorials. Ornaments are a personalized-gift product more than a decor product.
When it peaks: the gift season, late fall to December, which Printify names as the spike for gift products. Ornaments in particular are a Christmas product.
Where to get it: Printify and Printful for blankets and pillows.
Left per order: the $29.99 Etsy median covers small baby blankets; a 50 x 60 personalized blanket is priced at $50 and up, which leaves $20 or more on a $29 cost. About $23 on a pillow at the $36.47 median, and about $12 to $13 on an ornament at the $17.98 median, before shipping and fees.
The catch: mostly the season. Blankets are a Q4 gift and quiet for the rest of the year. Ornaments are crowded (869,000 listings on Etsy in September) and even more seasonal.
Phone cases and accessories
A design printed on a phone case, a laptop sleeve, a tote bag.
Cost: a cotton tote is about $9.65 at Printify and $13.25 at Printful. A phone case starts at $4.43 at Printify and $8.75 at Printful; the exact price depends on the phone model and the print provider.
Sells for: the median personalized phone case listing on Etsy is $28.66, a personalized tote $21.30.
Who buys it: people who want a design, a name or a photo on something they use every day, for themselves or as a small gift.
When it peaks: new phone launches and Q4.
Where to get it: Printify and Printful for cases and totes.
Left per order: about $11.65 on a $21.30 tote before shipping and fees, and $20 to $24 on a phone case at the $28.66 median, depending on which supplier and model you pick.
The catch: every phone model is a separate product, so the catalog gets big fast, and cases from the big brands and from AliExpress set a low price ceiling.
Stickers and stationery
Die-cut stickers, notebooks, planners, cards.
Cost: Printify's stickers start at $1.21. Notebook costs are inside the catalogs only.
Sells for: the median custom sticker listing on Etsy is $6.85, and 68% are under $10. A personalized notebook lists at about $18.
Who buys it: planners, students, small businesses, fans.
When it peaks: back to school and Q4.
Where to get it: Printify (stickers from $1.21) and Printful; Gelato does notebooks and cards.
Left per order: about $5.60 on a $6.85 sticker before shipping and fees, which is why stickers sell in packs.
The catch: the price per item is tiny, so a sticker shop needs hundreds of sales a month to matter, and shipping cost can be higher than the product.
Best selling print on demand products right now
If you only want the short list, here is what I see selling in October 2026. It is not one official ranking: each line says where the evidence comes from.
Personalized jewelry, especially necklaces personalized with names, dates, fingerprints, portraits and line art. Ownprint is the supplier for this one, and every piece ships with a custom message card, your thank you card if you add one, and its own unboxing experience.
Unisex t-shirts, especially niche and occupation designs. First on Printify's list, and the most Etsy listings of any product here.
11 oz mugs with a name or a joke. Fourth on Printify's list.
Hoodies and sweatshirts for the same niches as the tees. Second and third on Printify's list.
Canvas prints and blankets, fifth and sixth on Printify's list, strongest as personalized gifts.
Posters, seventh on Printify's list, cheap to make and easy to ship.
Phone cases, eighth on Printify's list.
On the jewelry side, the pieces sellers on Ownprint build their shops on are name and date pendants, birth flower and birthstone pieces, anniversary dates and coordinates of the place they met, star maps of a wedding night or a birth, photo and portrait pendants engraved as line art, handwriting and fingerprint pieces, initials and zodiac signs, pet portraits and paw prints, memorial pieces, saints and verses for faith buyers, and hobby and job pieces for the same niches that carry t-shirts. The list has no real end, because the buyer brings the last part of the design.
The pattern across the list: the products that sell are the ones where the buyer can put a person into them, a name, a date, a photo, a place.
The map: island size is how many sellers crowd each product; the number is what is left per order at the typical Etsy price, before shipping and fees.
Unique print on demand products
"Unique" is the search a lot of sellers make when they are tired of competing with ten thousand t-shirt shops. The products a buyer cannot get at the mall:
Engraved photo jewelry: a child's drawing, a pet's face or a wedding photo turned into a line engraving on a pendant.
Handwriting pieces: a late parent's signature or note, engraved from a photo of it.
Star maps: the night sky from a date and place, on a pendant or a poster.
Coordinates and city maps on a bar pendant or a keychain.
Fingerprint jewelry: the buyer sends a photo of a fingerprint and it is traced onto the piece.
Beyond jewelry: custom pet portrait blankets, song lyric posters and hooded blankets are the ones that still feel fresh, and printed plates and dishes, which a few suppliers such as Contrado now make to order in bone china, are an early niche with a personalized gift angle; Printify also lists hooded blankets and car seat covers among its niche products.
The thing these share is that the design is finished by the buyer. A seller cannot copy your listing, because the product does not exist until a customer makes it theirs.
Personalized and custom print on demand products
Personalization is the reason the products above sell at the prices they do. Three things happen when the buyer adds a name.
The price goes up. A plain necklace competes with every plain necklace on Amazon. The one with "Emma, 14.03.2008" on it competes with nothing, so the buyer does not go looking for a cheaper version. More of the people who look, buy. And the review says "she cried", which brings the next buyer.
How it works on each platform: on Etsy, the personalization box on the listing collects the text or the photo, and it arrives with the order. On Shopify, a personalization block on the product page does the same. On Ownprint both are built in, the buyer's text or upload lands on the order automatically, and the piece is engraved from it. No emailing back and forth with the customer.
The categories where buyer personalization works well: jewelry, mugs, ornaments, blankets and prints. It works less well on apparel, where a name on a shirt looks like a sports kit and the shirt has to be sized too.
The personalization fields a buyer sees on a Shopify product page: what they type lands on the order.
Print on demand ideas by niche
Every product above sells better inside a niche than outside one, because buyers search for a gift for a specific person. Here are the niches that sell year after year, with the two or three products that fit each one. Jewelry first where it fits, because that is what I know best.
Pets: a pendant with the dog's portrait or name, a memorial piece with the paw print and dates, a pet blanket or mug.
Memorial and remembrance: a handwriting pendant from a note, a photo pendant, a sympathy ornament.
Faith: a verse reference or a saint on a coin pendant (Lily built 2,000 orders on Saint necklaces), a cross keychain, a scripture print.
Kids and new baby: a birth details necklace for the mom, a birth flower pendant, a name blanket for the nursery.
Sports: a team or jersey number keychain, a tee, a water bottle.
Couples and anniversaries: matching coordinate pendants for the place they met, a star map of the wedding night, an anniversary mug set.
Birthdays by age: the 16th, 18th, 21st and 30th as separate products, each with a design for the occasion.
Hobbies, jobs and fandoms: the same niches that carry t-shirts, nurses, teachers, hikers, gamers, dog breeds, a band or a club, as an engraved necklace or keychain next to the tee.
Nine niches that sell year after year, each as a coin pendant.
What to start with
If you have never sold print on demand, start with personalized jewelry. The work is the same as for a shirt, one design, one listing, one niche, and it leaves roughly four times the money per order.
What is left per order, product by product. Every number is from this page.
You do not need to be a designer. You can pick one of the 190+ ready-made designs in Ownprint's Design Vault or make your own in the editor, the buyer adds the name, date or photo on your product page, and Ownprint's team prepares the final engraving file for every order.
You can also start with a mug or a shirt. But those markets are far more competitive, more than a million custom t-shirt listings on Etsy alone, and they leave $8 to $10 per order, so you need volume from the first day. Once a jewelry design sells in a niche, the same buyers take a mug or a shirt with the same idea, and you already know the niche, the keywords and what the buyer responds to. And if you already sell shirts or mugs in a niche, add a jewelry piece for the same buyers: it is the easiest product to add and the one that leaves the most per order.

The t-shirt price is the median Etsy listing price (Rankhero, 2026); most personalized mugs list between $10 and $25, so $15 is a fair middle. The costs are Printful's and Printify's own published prices in October 2026, and the necklace is Ownprint's base price and the suggested minimum retail from our pricing page. Shipping comes on top in every column, and many sellers charge it to the buyer.
How to add jewelry to a shop you already run
If you already sell shirts, mugs or prints, jewelry is an add-on, not a restart. Keep your supplier for the rest and add a jewelry supplier next to it.
Where the big suppliers fit: Printify, Printful and Gelato are the right call for apparel, mugs, prints and home goods, with big catalogs and print partners in many countries. Their catalogs are built around those products; Printify, for example, lists only a few necklaces. Ownprint is built around jewelry: pendants, bracelets and keychains engraved in Rotterdam and California, with the buyer's personalization built into the listing.
Questions sellers ask
What print on demand products sell best?
Personalized gifts, name necklaces, mugs, ornaments and blankets with a name or photo, plus niche t-shirts. The short list above says where each one's evidence comes from.
Is jewelry a good print on demand product?
Yes, and I think it is the best one to start with: a $49 sale on a $12.50 cost, personalized by the buyer. The catch is that sellers who price low or quit after ten listings do not get there.
Which print on demand product has the highest margin?
Of the products here, personalized jewelry, with the back engraving upsell on top. Canvas can leave more per piece than a poster, but costs more to make and ship, and blankets pay well only at gift prices, $50 and up. Every product's margin is in its block above.
What sells best on Etsy?
Gifts for a person and an occasion. Etsy had 86.5 million active buyers at the end of 2025, and its own annual report names gifting, holidays and personal milestones as a key reason they buy.
Do I need design skills?
Skill always helps, but for personalized jewelry it is not the barrier: you pick a ready-made design from Ownprint's Design Vault or make your own in the editor, the buyer adds the name, date or photo, and Ownprint's team prepares the engraving file for every order. Mugs and ornaments with a name or a photo work the same way. For t-shirts and wall art the design is the whole product, so your eye matters more; the big suppliers have editors and AI tools of their own to help with that.
How many products should I start with?
One product type, one niche, and then listings in volume. On Etsy, 100 well-optimized listings is where sales start to show up for most shops. Three to five new listings a day is the pace to work toward; one a day is a fine start.
Is print on demand saturated in 2026?
T-shirts are: 1,265,000 Etsy listings for "custom t-shirt" against 465,000 for "personalized necklace" and 96,000 for "personalized phone case". Personalized products are less so, because every buyer makes their own, and there are more occasions than sellers. Etsy itself credited personalized, occasion-driven goods for its best quarter in over a year in early 2026.
Can I sell print on demand products on my own website?
Yes. Shopify, WooCommerce and Squarespace all connect to the suppliers above. Etsy is easier for a first sale because the buyers are already there; your own store is the better road once you know your niche and want to run ads.
What about digital downloads?
They are not print on demand: nothing is made or shipped, so what the buyer pays is what you keep after Etsy's fees, and printable wall art, planners, Canva templates and SVG cut files sell in volume. The catch is the crowd. AI made digital files almost free to produce, the category filled up fast, and Etsy's creativity standards now require you to say when AI made the design and ban reselling files you did not create. A digital download can sit next to a physical product in the same niche, a printable birth poster beside the birth details necklace, but as a first product it is the most crowded start on the platform.
