Ownprint vs Printify: Print on Demand Jewelry Compared (2026)

Printify is a print on demand platform with a network of print providers: you pick a product and set your margin, and a provider in Printify's partner network makes it and ships it. Ownprint is a supplier: one company that designs, engraves, packs and ships jewelry from its own facilities. That one difference explains almost every row in this comparison. For personalized jewelry, Ownprint is the stronger choice on price, consistency, delivery in Europe and the unboxing: a gift box, foil wrap, your own message and thank-you cards and a complimentary gift for the buyer, all from one maker. Printify is the stronger choice if you want t-shirts, mugs, posters and a necklace from the same account, and many sellers run both.

The verdict: for print on demand jewelry, Ownprint is the better choice, and the reason is what each company is. Ownprint specializes in jewelry: it designs, engraves, packs and ships every piece in its own facilities in Rotterdam and California, so the price, the material and the box are the same on every order. Printify is a platform built for breadth: jewelry is one category among many in a catalog of over 2,000 products, made by six different US-based print providers when we counted, so the box, the material and the delivery time depend on which one you pick, and European orders travel from the US. That shows in the numbers: an engraved steel necklace is $12.90 (€11) on Ownprint and $18.50 for the comparable bar necklace on Printify, or $13.98 for its cheapest engraved pendant; every Ownprint order ships in a gift box with your message card and, if you want it, your logo on the box; on Printify it depends on the provider. Printify is the better pick if you want one supplier for hundreds of product types, or you already pay for Printify Premium and sell at volume. And you do not have to choose: both connect to the same Etsy or Shopify store, so many sellers keep Printify for apparel and mugs and add Ownprint for the jewelry, with each supplier fulfilling its own orders.

How we compared them

We opened Printify's jewelry category with the region set to the USA, counted what is in it, opened the product pages for the engraved pieces closest to what Ownprint makes, and read the shipping tab, the provider information and the help center articles on personalization, packaging and plans. Ownprint's side comes from its own pricing and platform pages. Every number is linked at the bottom with the date we saw it.

One thing to say up front: these two are different kinds of company, and that is not a criticism of either. Printify describes its model in its own words: "You set your profit margin, we take care of production and delivery", through what it calls its partner network of print providers. That is how it can offer so many products. Ownprint makes only jewelry, in its own facilities. If you sell apparel and want to add a necklace as well, you can do that on either, but this page is about which one does the necklace better.

Hand-drawn sketch: on Ownprint your shop sends orders to one maker with facilities in Rotterdam and California and the same gift box on every order; on Printify your shop sends orders to a platform that routes them to one of six providers, so the box and shipping depend on the provider
How an order travels: one maker with two facilities and the same box every time, or a platform with six providers, where the box, the material and the shipping follow the provider.

What jewelry each one actually offers

The one-line versionPrintify's jewelry category held 39 listings from six print providers when we counted, 33 of them wearable and 25 labelled engraving; Ownprint's catalog is 31 necklaces, bracelets and keychains, all engraved, all made by Ownprint.

On Printify, jewelry sits inside Accessories. The 39 listings include necklaces, bar pendants, photo pendants, bracelets, an anklet, signet rings, cufflinks and a dog tag, plus six items that are not jewelry at all, such as jewelry boxes, trinket trays and shoe lace tags. Every listing is "By Generic brand", and each one is made by one of six providers: Fulfill Engine in South Carolina makes 23 of them, Photograve 11, and Colorway, Imagine Your Photos, Printdoors and Lumient one each. The provider decides the material, the packaging, the production time and the shipping rate, so two necklaces in the same category can arrive in different boxes with different care instructions.

Ownprint's catalog is smaller on paper and all of one kind: engraved necklaces, bracelets and keychains in coin, heart, tag and bar shapes, in stainless steel, 18k gold and 18k rose gold plating, plus birthstone versions and two premium bracelets. The necklaces come on a cable chain, a Cuban chain or a paperclip chain, so the same engraved coin can be a dainty gift for a mother or a heavier piece for a man. Every one of them is engravable, front and back on nearly every shape. Because the design is yours, the same pieces sell in almost any niche: a pet's face for pet lovers, a date and coordinates for couples, a child's handwriting for parents and grandparents, a verse for faith buyers, a name and dates for memorial gifts, a team or a hobby for anyone else, and beyond those, whatever your own niche needs. One material specification, one box, one maker.

Price, like for like

The one-line versionOwnprint charges $12.90 (€11) for an engraved stainless steel necklace and $14 (€12) in 18k gold or rose gold plating; Printify's engraved bar necklace is $18.50, its heart necklace $18.17, and its cheapest engraved pendant $13.98, before shipping.

Printify prices each listing by provider, and shows two numbers: the price everyone pays, and the price with Printify Premium, a subscription of $39 a month, or $24.99 a month billed yearly, that takes up to 20% off. The table shows both, because a seller who already pays for Premium for their apparel will see the lower number. Ownprint has one price list for everyone and no subscription.

Ownprint bills in euros, shown in your own currency in the app; dollar figures are approximate. Printify prices are the USD "From" prices on its catalog as of September 24, 2026, checked again on October 7, 2026 in euros (the bar necklace showed €16.10, the oval pendant €12.16, with a 5% product discount applied that day). Premium prices are Printify's own "with Printify Premium" figures.

Read the table two ways. On the free side, Ownprint is cheaper on every engraved piece, by $1 to $7. On the Premium side, Printify's cheapest pendant and its birthstone charm come in under Ownprint, and the bar and heart necklaces land within a dollar, which is why Premium only changes the picture for a seller who already pays for it and sells enough jewelry to earn it back.

Who makes it, and where it ships from

The one-line versionOwnprint engraves, packs and ships every piece in its own facilities in Rotterdam and California and routes each order to the one nearest the buyer; every jewelry listing on Printify showed a US-based provider when we checked, so European orders cross the Atlantic.

This is the row that matters most if you sell to Europe. Printify's jewelry category showed "Local USA providers" on every listing, and the shipping tabs confirm it: a bar necklace to Germany is $13.49 to ship and 10 to 30 business days in transit after production; the oval pendant is $12.89 and the same 10 to 30 days. The one provider labelled worldwide, Colorway, quotes $24.49 to Europe. The same order on Ownprint is made in Rotterdam, ships for $8.15 (€6.95), arrives in 2 to 7 business days in most of Europe, and never crosses a customs border.

For US buyers, Printify's domestic shipping is cheaper: $5.89 standard or $4.59 economy against Ownprint's $8.15 (€6.95), with 2 to 5 business days on both. Production is close too: Fulfill Engine showed an average of 2.9 days and Photograve under a day when we checked; Ownprint produces in 2 to 5 business days and ships from California. Ownprint's pieces are made and packed in Rotterdam and California.

Engraving: what the laser can do, and who prepares the file

The one-line versionBoth engrave with a fiber laser; on Printify's engraved listings the seller supplies solid black vector art and the result is one colour, on Ownprint the buyer's text or photo is turned into the engraving by Ownprint's designers, front and back.

Printify's engraving guidelines on the product page are clear and worth quoting: use "pure black designs on a transparent background", "vector formats (SVG)", "thick and clear" lines, and avoid gradients, fine details and thin fonts. The output is described as "Etched texture, Permanent, No color". That is honest advice for fiber-laser engraving on steel, and it means the seller does the design work: one vector per listing, prepared before the product goes live, and a manual step on each personalized order unless the automated layers are set up.

On Ownprint the editor shows the real charm size and the engravable area, comes with 190+ ready-made designs, a star map generator, a language converter for Greek, Cyrillic, Arabic and Hebrew, background removal and an AI design generator. Nearly every piece engraves on the front and the back. Once a product is live, each buyer's text or pet photo is turned into the engraving file by Ownprint's design team, so there is nothing to prepare per order. Photo engraving, a pet's face or a child's drawing on a coin, is a standard product on Ownprint, not a special request; on Printify the photo pendants come from Photograve, where the oval pendant offers a choice of dye sublimation or laser engraving. And whatever the buyer wants on the piece is possible on Ownprint: a photo, a drawing, a signature, text in any font and in languages beyond the Latin alphabet, a date, coordinates. The buyer adds it at checkout and the designers prepare it.

Personalization at checkout

The one-line versionPrintify's automated personalization, with text and image layers synced to Etsy, Shopify, TikTok Shop and its Pop-Up Store, is a real strength and free; Ownprint includes buyer personalization on Etsy and Shopify product pages, up to five fields in 10 languages, with no app.

This is a section where Printify deserves credit. Its help center describes two modes. Manual personalization works on every channel except the Pop-Up Store: on Etsy and TikTok the buyer sees instructions and an input field, the request lands in Printify, and the seller edits the design before production; on other channels the buyer has to use order notes or email. Automated personalization goes further: the seller adds "personalizable layers" when creating the product, the buyer's text or image is applied to the design automatically, and it works on Etsy, Shopify, TikTok and the Pop-Up Store, with live previews on apparel first. For a seller running many personalized products across channels, that is well built.

Ownprint's version is simpler and aimed at jewelry: up to five personalization fields, in 10 languages, appear on your Etsy or Shopify product page with no extra app, and whatever the buyer types or uploads goes straight to the production order, where the designers prepare the engraving. The difference in practice is what happens after the buyer clicks: on Printify the seller, or the automated layer, produces the final design; on Ownprint, Ownprint does.

What your buyer opens

The one-line versionEvery Ownprint order ships in a gift box with foil wrap, a seller-designed message card, a complimentary wax melt gift for the buyer and a cleaning cloth at no extra cost; on Printify the box depends on the provider, a branded insert costs $0.15 to $0.25, and no branded outer box is listed.
The Ownprint unboxing with gift box, message card, gold foil, wax melt and thank-you card
What an Ownprint order looks like when the buyer opens it, on every order.

Here is what that looks like from the buyer's side. The parcel opens to a gift box, with your logo on the lid in metallic foil if you have set that up. Inside, the piece sits in foil wrap, with the message card you designed in the app, the one that says "to my daughter" or carries the story behind the gift. Under it, a wax melt as a small complimentary gift for the buyer, a cleaning cloth, and your thank-you card if you added one. Nothing in the box says Ownprint. For a personalized gift, that sequence is the product as much as the engraving is, and it is the part buyers photograph and mention in reviews. On Printify, what the buyer opens depends on which of the six providers made the piece, and the seller sees it for the first time when the buyer does.

Personalized jewelry is a gift more often than not, and the box is part of the product. On Ownprint a good unboxing experience is the default, and on top of it you can add your logo to the gift box in metallic foil from $1.30 (€1.10) per box and your own thank-you card for $0.40 (€0.35) per order, both optional. On Printify, the packaging help article lists apparel, accessories, posters, home and living and mugs, and says "Printify's name does not appear anywhere on the package", but has no jewelry line; whether a piece comes in a box is stated per product. Photograve's oval pendant "is packaged in a gift box"; Fulfill Engine's stone bracelet "comes in a White Gloss Jewelry Box"; the bar and heart necklaces say nothing. Branding is a 6 by 4 inch insert card at $0.25, or $0.15 on Premium, from providers that offer it, and a free gift message card on supported providers. Printify's branding page lists neck labels, inserts and gift messages; a branded box or mailer is not among them.

Consistency across orders

The one-line versionPrintify's jewelry mixes 316L steel with PVD coating from one provider, stainless steel and sterling silver from another and a zinc alloy sublimated pendant from a third; Ownprint's whole range is 304L stainless steel with 18k gold and rose gold IP plating, engraved the same way.

This one only shows up after a few orders. A seller with five Printify necklaces from two or three providers has five products that arrive from different places, in different packaging, with different materials and different care instructions, under one shop name. Fulfill Engine's bar necklace is "316L Surgical Grade Stainless Steel with additional PVD coating options"; Photograve's oval pendant is "100% Stainless steel (Stainless Steel and Gold Plated) and Sterling Silver"; Colorway's oval necklace is a "zinc alloy pendant" with a "white aluminum print surface". Each is fine on its own. Together they are three different products under one shop name. Ownprint's pieces share one specification, 304L stainless steel, 18k gold and rose gold IP plating, permanent black laser engraving, hypoallergenic and REACH compliant, and one box, so the tenth order looks like the first.

Plans, and what they really cost

Printify is free to use, and Premium is a genuine option: $39 a month, or $24.99 a month billed yearly, for up to 20% off products, 10 stores instead of 5, and Printify Connect. For a seller who already pays it for apparel, jewelry gets the discount too. For a seller who would pay it only for jewelry, the maths are simple: at about $5 saved per bar necklace, Premium pays for itself after four to seven bar necklaces a month, and costs you money below that. Ownprint has no plan to subscribe to. The AI tools are pay per use, on a prepaid points balance where one point is one euro, so you pay for what you use and nothing monthly, and the base price is the base price for everyone.

When something goes wrong

Both remake orders that arrive wrong or damaged. Ownprint remakes and reships anything that is its error, a wrong item, an engraving mistake, a defect or damage in transit, and the customer keeps the original. On Printify the seller submits the issue from the order page within 30 days of delivery, Printify's team reviews it and offers a free reprint for an incorrect or faulty product; a low-quality result caused by an unsuitable design file is not covered, which matters for engraving, where the file is the seller's. Ownprint's support answers in 1 to 24 hours on weekdays, and because support and production are the same company, a question about an order goes straight to the people who can check it, with no provider in between. Ownprint has produced personalized jewelry since 2020; its longest-running sellers have thousands of orders behind them and tell their stories on video, and seller reviews are collected on the reviews page.

Where Ownprint wins

  • Made in-house. One maker, its own facilities in Rotterdam and California, so the material and the box are the same on every order. On Printify, jewelry comes from six providers and each one decides.
  • Europe. European orders are made in Rotterdam and ship for $8.15 (€6.95) in 2 to 7 business days with no customs. Printify's jewelry listings all showed US-based providers when we checked: $12.89 to $24.49 to ship to Europe and 10 to 30 business days in transit.
  • Base price. $12.90 (€11) for an engraved steel necklace, bracelet or keychain, $14 (€12) in gold plating, against $18.50 and $18.17 for Printify's engraved bar and heart necklaces and $19.74 for its gold pendant, with no subscription needed to get there.
  • The box. Gift box, foil wrap, message card, a complimentary wax melt gift and a cleaning cloth on every order, a logo box from $1.30 (€1.10) and your own thank-you card for $0.40 (€0.35). Printify offers inserts and gift messages, and no branded box.
  • Branding. Your message card under the jewelry, your thank-you card, your logo in metallic foil on the box if you want it, and your shop's name on the label; nothing in the parcel says Ownprint. On Printify, branding is a neck label for apparel, an insert card and a gift message; Printify's branding page lists no option to put your logo on the box.
  • Design handling. Ownprint's designers turn each buyer's text or photo into the engraving, front and back, and photo engraving is an everyday product. On Printify's engraved listings the seller supplies black vector art.
  • Jewelry focus. Everything in the catalog is jewelry: shapes, birthstones, ready-made designs per shape, an AI jewelry designer and a language converter for non-Latin alphabets, built by a team that only does this.
  • A small, personal team. Support in 1 to 24 hours on weekdays from people who know the product, and cases looked at one by one.

Where Printify wins

  • Catalog breadth. Printify is the way to sell t-shirts, hoodies, mugs, posters and phone cases from one account. Ownprint's catalog is jewelry, and it is expanding. For a shop built on many product types, Printify is the one.
  • Provider choice. Six jewelry providers means a second source if one is slow, and a range of materials, from sublimated photo pendants to sterling silver.
  • Automated personalization across channels. Personalizable layers synced to Etsy, Shopify, TikTok Shop and the Pop-Up Store, with live previews, is a strong system for sellers with many personalized products.
  • US domestic shipping. $5.89 standard and $4.59 economy for the first item, against Ownprint's $8.15 (€6.95).
  • Volume pricing. With Premium, Printify's cheapest engraved pendant drops to $10.32 and its birthstone charm to $10.56, below Ownprint, for sellers who pay the subscription and sell enough to earn it back.
  • Scale and channels. A larger company, founded in 2015, with a bigger catalog and more sales channels: its integrations page lists Etsy, TikTok Shop, eBay, Amazon, Shopify, Squarespace, Wix, WooCommerce, Big Cartel, PrestaShop and BigCommerce, plus its own Pop-Up Store. Ownprint connects Etsy, Shopify, WooCommerce and Squarespace.

Which one fits your shop, or both?

Pick Printify for the apparel, mugs, posters and phone cases: breadth is what it is built for, and if you already pay for Premium and sell at volume, the discount works for you.

Pick Ownprint for the jewelry, whether it is your whole shop or one necklace next to the t-shirts: the base price is lower without a plan, the piece is made by one maker on both sides of the Atlantic, the box is gift-ready by default, and you never prepare an engraving file. If your buyers are in Europe, the shipping row makes the choice for you.

And use both, which is what a lot of sellers already do: Printify for the t-shirts and mugs, Ownprint for the necklaces and accessories, all sold from the same shop. Both connect to the same Etsy or Shopify store, each one fulfills its own orders, and the same niches work on either: pet lovers, couples, memorial gifts and the rest.

Questions sellers ask

Is Printify or Ownprint better for print on demand jewelry?

For jewelry specifically, Ownprint: an engraved steel necklace is $12.90 (€11) against $18.50 for Printify's comparable bar necklace, every piece is made in Ownprint's own facilities in the EU and the US, and the gift box and message card are included. Printify is the better pick for the apparel, mugs and posters in the same shop, and many sellers use both.

Does Printify do engraved jewelry?

Yes. When we counted on September 24, 2026, 25 of the 39 listings in Printify's jewelry category were labelled engraving, made by fiber laser at US providers, mostly Fulfill Engine and Photograve. The seller supplies black vector artwork, and the result is a one-colour etched design. Ownprint engraves by fiber laser too, front and back, and its designers prepare the file from whatever the buyer typed or uploaded.

Where is Printify jewelry made?

In the United States. Every listing in the jewelry category showed "Local USA providers". European orders ship from the US in 10 to 30 business days. Ownprint makes European orders in Rotterdam and US orders in California.

Which is cheaper for a personalized necklace?

Without a subscription, Ownprint: $12.90 (€11) for an engraved steel necklace against $13.98 for Printify's cheapest engraved pendant and $18.50 for its bar necklace. With Printify Premium, at $39 a month or $24.99 billed yearly, the cheapest pendant drops to $10.32, which is below Ownprint, and the bar necklace to $12.76, which is about the same.

Does Printify include a gift box for jewelry?

It depends on the provider and the product. Photograve's oval pendant and Fulfill Engine's stone bracelet state a gift box; the bar and heart necklaces do not say. Printify's packaging article has no jewelry line. Every Ownprint order includes a gift box, foil wrap and a seller-designed message card at no extra cost.

Can I engrave a photo on Printify jewelry?

On Printify's engraved listings the guidelines ask for solid black vector art, and the photo pendants come from Photograve, where the oval pendant offers a choice of dye sublimation or laser engraving. On Ownprint, photo engraving, such as a pet's face on a coin, is a standard product, and Ownprint's designers prepare the file from the buyer's upload.

Is Printify free?

Yes. Printify is free to use and charges only when a customer orders; Printify Premium, at $39 a month or $24.99 a month billed yearly, takes up to 20% off products. Ownprint is also free, with one price list and no subscription.

Can I use Ownprint and Printify at the same time?

Yes. Both connect to the same Etsy or Shopify store, so sellers list Ownprint jewelry next to Printify apparel, mugs and posters. Each supplier fulfills its own orders.
