Meet Jacqueline. She's an artist and designer from Melbourne, Australia, with a background in retail and a few different businesses. Her print on demand jewelry shop on Etsy is the one that moved to the country with her. This is her story, in her own words.

An artist who needed remote

Jacqueline comes from a creative background and a retail one. Her previous business meant managing inventory, production, and stores that needed her physically close. Then she decided to move to the country, and the business had to change shape.

"I wanted to create physical products and an income stream without having to hold inventory or manage all of the production," she says. And one more thing mattered to her as an artist: "I wanted it to be meaningful and feel that creative urge that I have. That's where Ownprint was a really great fit for me."

The practical side held up too. She's satisfied with the quality of the products, and support answers fast: "If ever I need to contact them, I always hear back with a great answer within 24 hours."

400 orders, one to five a day

Jacqueline's shop has passed 400 orders with Ownprint, at a fairly consistent one to five a day. Q4 picks up a lot, gift season, and gives her income a nice boost at the end of every year.

Her Etsy stats put it plainly: 408 orders and AU$35.9K in revenue. And all of it happened around the edges of everything else in her life.

"The business has now done over $36,000 Australian dollars in revenue so far, which is pretty amazing to me, given that I've not been able to work on it full-time at any point."Jacqueline, artist and print on demand jewelry seller

Her shop is growing in the background

Ownprint makes the products, manages the production, and fulfills every order. What that buys Jacqueline is time for the part she actually loves: "developing the products and building the world behind the brand."

That matters more than ever right now. Jacqueline recently welcomed a newborn, and she's on maternity leave, stepped away from the creation side of the shop. The shop didn't stop.

"It's still growing in the background and generating income with very little effort. So that's been amazing."Jacqueline

"It's offered me flexibility around my life and my time," she says, "which is really important during pregnancy and now postpartum with a newborn, where I can still have it running and going without having to give up work."

Her advice if you're hesitating

Her answer is worth reading twice.

"Just start. And don't chase perfectionism. The longer you hold off, the less information you're going to be able to gather that's gonna help you to build."Jacqueline

The way she sees it, mistakes aren't the risk. They're information you can't get any other way: "Making mistakes is really important because it's useful information. As you go, you'll see what picks up and what doesn't."

And for anyone close to calling it quits: "Often success is right on the other side of when we tend to give up and think that something's not working. So yeah, just start and keep going."

[00:00]Hey, I'm Jacqueline. I'm an artist and designer based in Australia, in Melbourne. I've been working with print on demand for a few years now. I come from a creative background and I run a few different businesses.

[00:14]I started print on demand jewelry because I wanted to create physical products and an income stream without having to hold inventory or manage all of the production. Coming from a background in retail where I was already doing that, and it was very much situated in stores that required me to be close. And so I was moving to the country and I needed something that was going to be remote.

[00:40]But also I wanted it to be meaningful and feel that creative urge that I have. So that's where Ownprint was a really great fit for me. They create really nice products. The quality I'm really satisfied with. And they've also got a great support system. If ever I need to contact them, I always hear back with a great answer within 24 hours.

[01:07]And so they create the physical products, they manage the inventory and the production and fulfillment. So that allows me to have lots of time to focus on the design side and the bits that I enjoy. Which is really important at this stage of life because I've just added a newborn to my life and my routine. So my time is limited. And so I don't have to do all the fiddly things that I don't enjoy. And I don't have to chase up all the inventory and stock that I normally would deal with in my previous business. So that's been a huge relief for me.

[01:43]So I've now done over 400 orders with Ownprint. And I generally get anywhere from one to five orders a day. It's fairly consistent. It does pick up a lot in Q4, which is at the end of the year, which is that gift season, so that always offers a nice boost to my income.

[01:59]And it is gradually growing, even during times where I don't have time to keep adding new products or at the moment I'm on maternal leave and so I've had to step away from that creation side of things, but it's still growing in the background and generating income with very little effort. So that's been amazing.

[02:18]So the business has now done over $36,000 Australian dollars in revenue so far, which is pretty amazing to me, given that I've not been able to work on it full-time at any point, that it's always been a part-time when I can endeavor.

[02:35]And my favorite part is definitely the creative side. I'm a designer and artist and I enjoy developing the products and kind of building the world behind the brand. And then having someone else manage the production side of things is great, especially when it's someone you can trust, that's really important.

[02:53]It's had a really big impact on my life. I've been able to move to the country and to be able to work remotely and generate a bit more income that's been really supportive for that. And so it's offered me flexibility around my life and my time, which is really important during pregnancy and now postpartum with a newborn, where I can still have it running and going without having to give up work. So that's been really nice for me.

[03:20]So if I was gonna give advice to anybody thinking about it, or hesitant, or ready to start but not sure where to begin, I would say just start. And don't chase perfectionism. And the longer you hold off, the less information you're going to be able to gather that's gonna help you to build. And making mistakes is really important because it's useful information. And as you go, you'll see what picks up and what doesn't. And so it's best just to start and jump in and keep going.

[03:52]Because often success is right on the other side of when we tend to give up and think that something's not working. So yeah, just start and keep going.
